ANODE ZINC REPLACEMENT

Why is it so important to replace Anodes (also known as Zincs) on your boat?

 

Saltwater located close to marinas contain high levels of electrolysis which cause galvanic corrosion.  Anodes help prevent electrolysis damage by absorbing the electricity instead of your boat's underwater metal fixtures. 

 

The unprotected metals on your outdrives, metal rudders, propeller shafts, propellers, trim tabs and thru hull fittings will erode and damage these parts.

 

By replacing your boats Anodes every 6 - 12 months it will help maintain your boats integrity and avoid unnecessary, costly repairs and replacement of parts.

There are various Floathome communitites through out Vancouver Island, we offer a wide range of cleaning and maintenance services from Nanaimo to Sidney, British Columbia.

Over a few months Floathomes acquire bearding consisting of muscles, barnacles, tube worms and sea weed, all can cause your Floathome to sink. Another issue with bearding is that it can cause instability and uneven weight distribution adding wear and tear on the billets, drums and styrofoam, which can lead to very costly repairs.

If you own a Float Home we highly suggest a yearly inspection and cleaning just like you would on any home. Owning a Float Home is an investiment and is worth the small up keep to help you avoid more costly issues down the road.

PROPELLER AND HULL CLEANING

What are the benefits of properly cleaned Propellers and Hulls?

 

On the Westcoast we have the most abundant sea life than anywhere else in the world.  Various marine life such as muscles, barnacles, tube worms and kelp like to adhere to your boats hull and propeller which can cause poor fuel economy and can lead to an overworked engine, causing more costly repairs.
